Volunteer Opportunities

Currently we are in need of volunteers to assist us in providing services to the clients we serve. These opportunities can be summarized as follows:

Hotline:
The Domestic Abuse & Sexual Assault Crisis Center operates a 24-hour hotline for victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. We are in need of volunteers to answer calls, provide basic referral information, and provide supportive counseling to the callers. Hotline workers do require training that we provide.

Legal Advocates:
We are in need of volunteers to provide legal advocacy to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Legal advocates may also be asked to accompany clients to the courthouse to apply for temporary restraining orders. Every Thursday legal advocates attend Superior Court to accompany victims at the final restraining order hearings. On occasion the legal advocate may be asked by a client to attend a final hearing within another county or may be asked to attend other court hearings as a support system to the client. This position does not require a law degree and we will provide training.

General Outdoors Work:
We maintain a few facilities in Warren County and are in need of volunteers to help keep our gardens and play areas in beautiful shape – weeding, planting flowers, painting, etc. No training is required.

Community Education:
We provide student education programs to Warren County middle schools and high schools. We wish to grow this program so that we can cover every school in the county. We are in need of volunteers who wish to facilitate these programs. Training is required and we will provide it.

Fundraising:
We are always in need of financial donations to help us provide support and services to our clients who so desperately need them. If you would like to organize a fundraising event to benefit our organization we would very much appreciate it. No training is required.

Health Fairs:
We need volunteers to staff tables at health fairs and hand out literature to those who stop by. Minimal training is required and the hours are usually during the day. Locations are schools and businesses within Warren County.

General Office Work:
From time to time we need volunteers to help out with mailings, filing, etc. Minimal training is required and the hours are during the day.

Room Sponsors:
We are in need of room sponsors for some of our rooms at the shelter and the Dorothy Blake House. Room sponsorship is $1,000 annually and covers the cost of bedding, curtains, rugs, towels, etc. Individuals, clubs, groups, or companies can sponsor rooms and will receive a plaque outside the room noting the donor’s generosity.

Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT) Advocates:
DVRT advocates provide assistance and support to victims of domestic violence who have been brought to police headquarters for the purpose of filing a temporary restraining order (TRO) or pressing criminal charges. Training is required and we will provide it.

Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Advocates:
SART advocates respond to survivors of sexual assault who are 13 years of age or older, who want forensic evidence gathered at either Warren Hospital or Hackettstown Regional Medical Center, and for whom the assault happened within the last 5 days.

If you would like to volunteer please download the application and email it to jschwier@besafewc.org or call 908-453-4121 ext 304 to request a volunteer application.
